Jobs for Unemployed Veterans

The Department of Veteran Affairs states that unemployment rate among veterans is as high as 11 percent. Veterans inherently are skilled in doing jobs, but sadly not in finding them. The Department of Veteran Affairs is well-aware of this fact and amended the existing GI Bill for Veterans to help unemployed veterans find in-demand jobs.

Now considering the current economic conditions, there are only a handful of jobs that are in-demand, truck driving is surely one of them. Department of Labor states that CDL truckers will be in high-demand from the period of 2012-2020. The demand will keep increasing at a rate of 20% every year. Post introduction of the Post 9/11 GI Bill for Veterans, it is possible for eligible veterans to obtain truck driving training. A 90-days active duty or 30-days of service (if discharge honorably) is the qualification criterion for veterans to derive full benefits of the GI Bill.

Several well-established veteran truck driving schools have been authorized to accept veterans as their students to provide truck driving training to veterans. Even housing allowances may be covered by the Bill to generate jobs for unemployed veterans.

The trucking industry is doing its bit by providing jobs for unemployed veterans. Trucking companies prefer to hire veterans with CDL license over others because of their military background. If you think it’s some sort of affirmative action, you are wrong. Veterans inherently are disciplined and prefer to work that way. This is extremely beneficial for trucking companies as their transport trucks carry goods worth millions. They prefer to give the responsibility to someone who understands its meaning.

Veterans for long have been facing difficulties in finding right jobs resulting in unemployment among veterans. All this is changing, thanks to truck driving program for veterans.
